JUXTAPOSED

TSAR BOMBA (BLGCD012)

Juxtaposed is brand new Norwegian combo that plays uncompromising instrumental music. With little or no respect for genre boundaries, they create fresh, new music with references to jazz, free jazz, rock, punk, pop and electronica. Tsar Bomba is their first album, and the album is named after the worlds´ biggest atomic bomb (of course made by the Russians during the Cold War). The album was recorded in one of Norways finest studios, the all-analog Athletic Studio in Halden, and mastered by the legendary Bob Katz. The result: a unique sound – explosive and expressive, yet surprisingly lyrical, and at times pretty catchy, too.

Atle Nymo (tenor saxophone):
The last few years, Atle has made a strong mark on the Norwegian jazzscene. In 2001, he was awarded ”Young Nordic Jazz Comet” with the band Motif, and since then he has collaborated with people like John Taylor, Palle Danielsson and Roger Kellaway. Works in bands like Motif and Trondheim Jazzorchestra, and has also worked in projects with Chick Corea and Pat Metheny, and the Norwegian lyricist Jan Erik Vold.

Petter Vågan (guitar):
Petter has an expressive style of playing rooted somewhere between modern jazz, free jazz, rock and electronic music. He seamlessly blends his guitar sound with various electronic devices to achieve a highly personal style. Petter has released 9 CDs and done tours in Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, Russia, The US and Canada, working with such notables as Christian Wallumrød, Django Bates, Tore Brunborg, Jon Balke and Per Jørgensen.

Ole Morten Vågan (bass):
One of Norway´s leading bass players, Ole Morten plays regularly with major Scandinavian names such as som Audun Kleive, Tore Brunborg, Jonas Kullhammar, Kresten Osgood, Christian Wallumrød and Bugge Wesseltoft. Ole Morten is also the leader of MOTIF, one of Norway´s hottest jazz bands at the moment, and in 2009 he recieved the prestigious DNB NOR award at the Kongsberg Jazz festival.

Erik Nylander (drums)
One of Norway´s hardest working jazz musicians, Erik Nylander plays with several notable bands such as Kobert, Kirsti Huke kvartett, Peloton, Magic Pocket and Tore Brunborg
Erik has released 15 CDs as a co-leader, and done tours in Denmark, Finland, USA, India, Bangladesh, China and Gambia.
